Birds in and around Höfn (SE) include fifteen Eurasian Curlews Numenius arquata, one Song Thrush Turdus philomelos, five Blackcaps Sylvia atricapilla, a Yellow-browed Warbler Phylloscopus inornatus, ten Common Chiffchaffs Phylloscopus collybita and a Brambling Fringilla montifringilla. Birds in the Lón area (SE) include a Grey Wagtail Motacilla cinerea, a European Robin Erithacus rubecula, one Blackcap, twelve Common Chiffchaffs and three Bramblings. Álftafjörður (E) produced a Grey Heron Ardea cinerea, one Blackcap, one Yellow-browed Warbler and two Common Chiffchaffs. Birds around Djúpivogur (E) include two Blackcaps, nine Common Chiffchaffs, a Brambling and a Chaffinch Fringilla coelebs. One Common Chiffchaff as well as a Common Crossbill Loxia curvirostra at Kverkin/Eyjafjöll (S).

One Common Chiffchaff Phylloscopus collybita at Staður near Grindavík (SW). Eight Common Crossbills Loxia curvirostra at Tumastaðir/Fljótshlíð (S).
This weekend (17-18 October) there was a census of Brent Geese and Pink-footed Geese in Iceland. A Hermit Thrush Catharus guttatus is at Heimaey/Vestmannaeyjar (S) where new arrivals also include a Grey Heron Ardea cinerea, one Blackcap Sylvia atricapilla (plus another since yesterday), one Lesser Whitethroat Sylvia curruca, one Common Chiffchaff Phylloscopus collybita and two Willow Warblers Phylloscopus trochilus. Birds at Höfn (SE) include a Bar-tailed Godwit Limosa lapponica, a European Robin Erithacus rubecula, a Blackcap, a Lesser Whitethroat and seven Common Chiffchaffs. Two more Common Chiffchaffs at Grænahraun/Nes (SE).

A Great Grey Shrike Lanius excubitor was discovered at Hvalnes/Lón (SE) - 7th for Iceland and first since 1982! Several Grey Herons Ardea cinerea at Hvalnes/Lón (SE) and two still at Baulutjörn/Mýrar (SE) where one Common Coot Fulica atra remains. Two White-rumped Sandpipers Calidris fuscicollis, an adult American Golden Plover Pluvialis dominica and a Lapland Longspur Calcarius lapponicus are at Garður (SW). One adult Little Gull Larus minutus at Sandgerði (SW). A Grey Wagtail Motacilla cinerea has been at Hafnarfjörður (SW) for three days. Single European Robins Erithacus rubecula at Hvalnes/Lón (SE) and Húsavík (NE). Single Blackcaps Sylvia atricapilla at Höfn (SE) and Tumastaðir/Fljótshlíð (S) and single Common Chiffchaffs Phylloscopus collybita at the same sites. Friday's storms brought in a lot of vagrants. The fourth Yellow Warbler Dendroica petechia for Iceland was found at Stokkseyri today. This autumn's 7th Buff-bellied Pipit Anthus rubescens was at Skálafell/Suðursveit (SE). BB Pipits are exceedingly rare away from SW Iceland. Iceland's fourth Least Sandpiper Calidris minutilla was still at Bakkatjörn/Seltjarnarnes (SW) along with the juvenile White-rumped Sandpiper Calidris fuscicollis. A Hawfinch Coccothraustes coccothraustes, a Lesser Whitethroat Sylvia curruca and a Pied Flycatcher Ficedula hypoleuca are at Höfn (SE). Yellow-browed Warblers Phylloscopus inornatus at Hnappavellir/Öræfi (SE), Núpur (S) and Þorvaldseyri (S). A Common Redstart Phoenicurus phoenicurus is at Horn/Nes. a Grey Wagtail Motacilla cinerea is at Ásólfsskáli (S). Lots of more common vagrants such as Common Chiffchaff Phylloscopus collybita, Willow Warbler Phylloscopus trochilus, Blackcap Sylvia atricapilla, Brambling Fringilla montifringilla, Common Crossbill Loxia curvirostra at various locations around the country.

Two Grey Herons Ardea cinerea and three Eurasian Curlews Numenius arquata at Sandgerði (SW). Still one adult American Golden Plover Pluvialis dominica at Garður (SW). One Yellow-browed Warbler Phylloscopus inornatus at Kálfafellsstaður/Suðursveit (SE). Three Blackcaps Sylvia atricapilla at Kverkin/Eyjafjöll (S).

With winds reaching 58 metres a second (130 mph, 210 km/h) across parts of southern Iceland today and the police warning people not to make unnecessary journeys, I sincerely doubt that any birds will be reported today. EDIT: I stand corrected. A White-rumped Sandpiper Calidris fuscicollis was found at Bakkatjörn/Seltjarnarnes (SW), presumably by a birder with lead weights in his pocket. One European Robin Erithacus rubecula at Húsavík (NE).

A REV was found at this same location on 28 September last year. Two Eurasian Siskins Carduelis spinus are also at Þorbjörn (SW). Still two Buff-bellied Pipits Anthus rubescens at Heimaey (S) where there is also a Lapland Longspur Calcarius lapponicus. Birds at Höfn include a White-rumped Sandpiper Calidris fuscicollis, an Arctic Redpoll Carduelis hornemanni and two Chiffchaffs Phylloscopus collybita. A drake Common Pochard Aythya ferina is at Syðriflói/Mývatn (NE). Four Barn Swallows Hirundo rustica at Grænavatn/Mývatn (NE). Fifteen Common Crossbills Loxia curvirostra at Snæfoksstaðir (S) and two at Þrastaskógur (S). Four Common Chiffchaffs Phylloscopus collybita and a Bar-tailed Godwit Limosa lapponica at Höfn (SE). A juvenile European Robin Erithacus rubecula was seen at Húsavík (NE), a rare breeding record for this species in Iceland.

YK has just found a Two-barred Crossbill Loxia leucoptera in a flock of 15 Common Crossbills Loxia curvirostra at Stöðvarfjörður (E) - the first record of this species in Iceland! Also one Willow Warbler Phylloscopus trochilus at Stöðvarfjörður. One Common Chiffchaff Phylloscopus collybita and one Bar-tailed Godwit Limosa lapponica at Höfn (SE).
