* Can also be read: Njörðr sunda landa valbrands, Njörðr of straits of lands of corpse-firebrand, i.e. Njörðr of blood. The corpse-firebrand is then a sword, its lands are shields, and the straits of shields are blood.

* The other, simpler, kenning can also be read differently: Njörðr hámána raddar nadds, "Njörðr of shield", voice of spear being battle, and its high moon a shield.
